Foundation Final Piece

I loved how some pieces looked in certain arrangements, and felt some were best on their own, so I tried to incorporate this into my work, layering as well as separating, hoping to create an overall image of beauty but at the same time keep lots to explore within it- building a large structure from several small individual pieces.

Foundation Course

I figured I'd start with my foundation course this time last year, then get up to scratch with where I am now.

For this project I was inspired by nature, with a particular focus on growth and layering of forms. I collected bark and lichen and painted and drew from these forms obsessively. I then begun painting lichen as I remembered it onto bark, mimicing its growth in nature. I must have made well over a hundered of these by the end.

I spent some time considering how to arrange these pieces, as individual pieces, small 'islands' or growths and eventually for the final piece, a large 'organism' or structure.
